Family History Library

This morning we checked out of the hotel around 9:30. Our goal now is to get home and both of us are ready to get a little rest and relaxation in before the New Users SIG meeting Tuesday and the Mac Computer Expo on Saturday.

First on the agenda this morning was a stop at the local Starbucks, as is our ritual whenever we can find a Starbucs anywhere near us.

Next, we drove to my friend Corey’s house so I could have my picture taken in her front yard and send it to her. She is in California square dancing with my tape group today, so I did not bother to knock on the door. I have not sent the photo yet, so there is some risk that one of you will read this and alert her before I send it. Oh well... She has a nice house and the neighborhood looks nice as well. And, it was only about 2 miles from the hotel we stayed at last night.

We then went to the Family History Library in Salt lake City and spent a couple of hours getting oriented. John will probably want to come back in the near future to do some genealogical research. I spent the time online with my mac working on web pages for this site.

We left SLC around 2:00 and drove to Winnemucca, NV. Our goal was to make it at least to Elko, but we wanted to get another 100 miles under our belts if we could. We had forgotten about the time zone change, so we actually got another hour back in our day and made it to Winnemucca, NV. We have less than 400 miles to drive tomorrow to get back to Petaluma.

Although we have both had a wonderful time on the trip, we are both really anxious to get a good night’s sleep in our own beds and to be able to wear something other than the four outfits we brought for the trip.

Today we spotted 3 Prii, all in the Salt Lake City area. Two were in a parking garage near Temple Square and one was on the road in Draper. The car averaged only a mediocre 44 miles per gallon today, but we were driving 75 mph on the freeway, so I’m sure that took its toll on the mileage.

Although the trip itself will likely end tomorrow, there is more work to be done on the web site and more photos, panoramas, stereoscopic images, and even a few movie clips to be added to the site. I will continue to update the blog whenever significant pages are added to the site. I have no idea when the site will be declared “complete”.
