More Arches!

We decided last night that we wanted to spend some more time in Arches National Park. While the tour we took yesterday was pretty good, we just did not have time to do more than the southern half of the park.

Before heading out to Arches, we stopped by our new favorite place to get mochas in Moab - The Wicked Brew. The guy who owns the place was there yesterday and today. He just loves his job and he makes good mochas. I got a frozen one and John’s was hot. Thanks to our Tag-A-Long guide Sarah for pointing us to this place.

After mochas, we made a quick diversion to Moab’s Grand Valley Cemetery to fulfill a Fing-A-Grave request. Find-A-Grave is a web site that offers a free service where people can enter grave information about their loved ones. They recently added a photo request service where you can volunteer to fulfill requests for headstone photos. We looked to see if there was something in Moab and found this one request that had been hanging around since May 1. You can check out the Find-A-Grave entry that John fulfilled from Moab.

Finally we were off to Arches. Yesterday we covered the Park Avenue View Trail and the Windows Section. Today we drove to the parking area for Delicate Arch and did the quick 1/2 mile trek to the viewpoint. John got a couple of good photos with the 12X zoom on the camera. Next we stopped at the Fiery Furnace viewpoint for a couple of photos, including a panorama. Then we drove to the trailhead for The Devil’s Garden. We walked to Landscape Arch (as far as you can go now) and then back to Tunnel Arch and Pine Tree Arch. It was really enjoyable and we were glad to have spent a few extra hours to see the stuff that we had missed.

At about 3:00 we drove from Arches to Torrey so that we can go to Capitol Reef tomorrow morning.

We saw one Salsa Prius today. Our gas mileage for today was only in the low 40s - I think it was around 43 mpg. Torrey is at 7000 feet and Moab is at only about 4000 feet.
